Ajna

Ajna (Sanskrit: आज्ञा, Ājña, [aːɟɲʌ], meaning 'command') is the brow or third eye chakra.  It means "command."
Color: purple
Element:  light; spiritual vision, inner sound.
Location: in the brain, directly behind the eyebrow center.
Yantra symbol: A moon surrounded by 2 white petals.  Above the moon is a downward pointing triangle, within which is a moon white lingum.  Above the triangle is a smaller triangle, within which is the bija mantra Aum.


 Associations / Characteristics: Ajna represents wisdom, self-mastery and spiritual realization.  It is associated with gentility, subtlety, cooperation, tactfulness, diplomacy, patience, sincerity, harmony, artistic ability, intuition, empathy, support, love, humility, and peacefulness.  It deals, too, with clairvoyance, insight, and visualization. 

Unbalanced chakra: physical problems- headaches, nightmares, eyestrain, learning disabilities, panic, depression, blindness, deafness, seizures.  Psychological and Emotional problems with: judgment, concept of reality, confusion, fear of ruth, lack of concentration and discipline.

A Balanced chakra provides the ability to think reality into existence, to imagine, to be intuitive, and to concentrate and focus.

Food that fuels this chakra: Caffeine, chocolate, alcohol can overstimulate it.  Spices stimulate and protect it, including caraway, coriander, cumin, fenugreek, ginger, nutmeg, tumeric, and many others.  Purple foods the contain antioxidants: eggplant, purple kale, blueberries, figs, plums, purple grapes, raisins.

Deity: Ardhanarishvara, a hermaphrodite form of Shiva-Shakti, who symbolizes the primordial duality of subject and object.
