Anahata (Sanskrit: अनाहत, Anāhata) is the heart chakra. It means unhurt, unstruck, or unbeaten.
Color: Green
Element: air
Location: The central channel behind the spine at the heart region; the center of the chest.
Yantra symbol: A grey lotus flower with 12 vermilion petals. Inside of the flower lies an intersection of 2 triangles, known as a shaktona. This represents the union of the male and feminine forms.
Associations / Characteristics: This chakra deals with the issues of love, passion, kindness, self-acceptance, forgiveness, relationships, and hope. As it balances the three lower and the three upper chakras, it balances the physical and the spiritual parts of our being. Thus, it processes and stores emotional experiences. It is associated with the sense of touch, the actions of the hands, and the ability to make decisions outside of the realm of the mind (following your heart). It's associated with charity to others, and other forms of healing. It's associated with the skin and a disease-combatant in the body: the white blood cells.
Unbalanced chakra: We feel grief, despair, jealousy, sadness, and loneliness above all other, more positive feelings. We're unable to feel empathy or compassion for ourselves or others. Our logic rules our behavior, instead of our grounding emotions and feelings. We may, physically, seep into depression and have cardiovascular problems.
It could become overpowering, in which case we feel possessiveness, jealousy, and resentment.
We have no room for love.
Balanced chakra: We give and receive love freely. We feel compassionate, and we feel a sense of wholeness. We're willing to share and give of ourselves in hope and inspiration. The connection to the air element comes into play: we spread and energize ourselves with air. We can get swept up with love, and yet come back and be grounded. We have good breath control, as air moves through us.
Foods that fuel this chakra: Vegetables! The leafy ones like broccoli, cauliflower, and Brussels sprouts mirror the unfolding spirals of the heart chakra. Dark, leafy greens are great, as well as sprouts and raw foods. http://agrainaday.com/?p=2097#more-2097
Deity: Vayu, who is smoke colored, four armed, and holds a kusha. He rides an antelope.
