Manipura

Manipura (Sanskrit: मणिपूर, Maṇipūra), is the naval or solar plexus chakra.  It means "city of Jewels" or "lustrous gem."
Color: Yellow
Element: Fire
Location: Behind the naval or the solar plexus, at the spine.
Yantra symbol: A downward pointing red triangle, known as the fire region, within a bright yellow circle that has 10 dark-blue or black petals.

Associations / Characteristics:  A masculine chakra, Manipura deals with the heat, fire, and assertiveness in us.  It deals with identity and self-esteem; our inner-drive comes from this chakra.  With it, we can assume responsibility for our life and follow our instincts.  It deals with risk-taking. It's considered the center of dynamism, energy, willpower, and achievement.  It's also associated with digestion, the sense of sight, and the action of movement.

An unbalanced chakra: We feel low self-esteem. We are sensitive to criticism, and have a poor self-image.  We feel uncertain about many things in life.  We put emphasis on power, perfectionism, hatred, and anger. We ignore our longing for rest, and we give ourselves a false sense of energy and overstimulate ourselves.   Physically, we may have digestive problems.

Balanced chakra: We feel energetic, confident, more cheerful, strong, and alive.  We are able to follow through with our actions; we have a willingness to persevere.

Food that fuels this chakra: Whole grains, sunflower seeds, and yellow spices like cumin, chamomile, and mint.  Carbohydrates that are low in glycemic index.  Legumes, as they provide balanced protein and carbohydrates.  Corn, yellow pepper, yellow summer squash, and lemon. http://agrainaday.com/?p=2027#more-2027

Deity: Rudra, who is red or white, and who has three eyes. Usually portrayed with a silver beard, and smeared with white ashes.  He makes the gestures of dispelling fear. He is either seated upon a tiger skin, or upon a bull.
